Any individual or registered business entity residing within the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council area can apply for a retail liquor licence. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set by the Excise Department, including age requirements, background verification, and premises suitability.
You will need to submit identity proof (Aadhaar/Voter ID), address proof, business registration certificate, premises ownership or lease document, NOC from the local authority, and passport-size photographs. Additional documents may be required based on the type of licence.
The typical processing time is 15 to 30 working days from the date of submission of a complete application. The timeline may vary depending on verification requirements and the volume of applications being processed.
Existing licence holders can apply for renewal through the online portal at least 30 days before the expiry date. You will need to submit updated compliance reports, pay the renewal fee, and ensure all previous conditions have been met satisfactorily.
Operating without a valid excise licence is a punishable offence under the applicable excise laws. Penalties include fines, seizure of stock, cancellation of future licence eligibility, and possible prosecution under the relevant sections of the Assam Excise Act as applicable to KAAC.
